Project Overview

During 2021–2022, Tanzania Education Co-operation Organization (TEC.ORG) implemented the project “Horticultural Farming Practices to Mitigate Youth and Women Empowerment Challenges” in Kwaguju Village, Mara Region, Tanzania Lake Zone. The initiative focused on strengthening livelihoods through sustainable horticultural farming while increasing economic opportunities for young people and women.

Project Objectives

• Promote sustainable horticultural farming practices.
• Improve household income through vegetable and fruit production.
• Empower youth and women with practical agricultural skills.
• Increase food security and better nutrition.
• Promote environmentally sustainable farming techniques.

Project Impact

The project enhanced agricultural knowledge among participants and encouraged the adoption of improved farming practices, including efficient water management, crop diversification, and climate-smart agriculture. By improving access to horticultural production techniques, the initiative contributed to increased productivity, strengthened household resilience, and created new income-generating opportunities for youth and women. Similar horticulture initiatives in Tanzania have demonstrated the value of improving production skills, market access, and participation of women and youth in agribusiness.
